Massage Therapy
Getting you out of pain and keeping you there. The practice of massage therapy is the assessment of the soft tissues and joints of the body and the treatment and prevention of physical dysfunction and pain of the soft tissue and joints by manipulation to develop, maintain, rehabilitate, or augment physical function or relieve pain.
(Massage Therapy Act, 1991)
What is Soft Tissue and Why is it Important?
Soft tissue includes your Muscles, Tendons, Ligaments and Fascia. These tissues are often involved in pain syndromes and treating them is very important. These tissues can become inflamed as in tendonitis or they may become weak or short and appropriate treatment to restore proper function is essential.
How Does Soft Tissue Treatment Work?
Soft tissue treatment works through a variety of mechanisms:
Increases circulation to the area being treated (like a sponge absorbing water) and flushes away waste products that may be built up in the tissue from metabolic waste products or injury.
Removes adhesions between individual muscles or between muscle and fascia to help restore proper function.
Promotes overall relaxation of the whole body, which helps in alleviating stress and promotes a sense of well-being.
Massage Therapy Supports Chiropractic & Acupuncture
Recovery is normally faster and more complete when multiple components of a condition are addressed.
Adjustments often hold longer when muscle tension is released.
The use of massage and acupuncture release muscle tension and adhesions efficiently when used together.
The surrounding soft tissue often heals quickly once it is no longer subjected to stress or misaligned joints.
Acupuncture can relieve acute signs and symptoms to allow for deep tissue massage.
Chiropractic adjustments may give immediate relief as the joints restore their mobility.
